Are you just not ‘feeling it’?

Do you ever have days or even weeks, when nothing seems to go right? Days when you’re just not ‘feeling it’ and wonder if it’s really all worth it (in a business sense!).
I’m talking about the days when thinking is out of the question, you’re so exhausted that you can barely get out of bed. How on earth do you get through those days when it all seems so endless?

I’m not going to lie, I’ve been in this mood for about 6 weeks now. I’m in the middle of a perfect s**t storm. Everything thrown at me at the same time and I’ve thought about throwing in the towel.

I won’t go into details about it, as it’s just stuff that we all go through at some time in the business cycle. LiveLink is in its 6th year now, so it’s probably my time.
Most of the time I stay positive – not always though. I have several coping strategies from chanting to whining (although the latter isn’t entirely constructive!
My winning strategy though, was learned around 14 months ago. I went to a conference and one of the speakers was Debra Searle – no, I hadn’t heard of her either. She is one amazing lady. If you don’t know who she is, Google her – she rowed across the Atlantic single handed and she wasn’t a rower. She didn’t mean to, but they found out too late that her Olympian husband was phobic to open water so had to be lifted off the boat. For some bonkers reason, Debra decided to continue alone.

Debra says that choosing her attitude every day was what got her through the days, particularly in difficult times. And that is something that I have adopted.
Every morning when I get into the car, I deliberately choose my attitude and that is my coping mechanism when outside forces just become overwhelming.

I went to a workshop delivered by Debra and her sister around 2 months ago – and I’m so glad that I did because it was a reminder that I CAN choose my attitude, however difficult things may be and I CAN cope with adversity. I know that everything passes and the sun is always shining, just sometimes obscured behind a black cloud.

Thank you Debra. Here’s a link to her TED Talk about how you can choose your attitude. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znYbn46Mies
