Just Do ONE Thing

Until it works.

And when it works, do it again and again and do more.

So what am I talking about?

I’m talking about marketing.

Everyone knows that having multiple marketing strands or pillars is the best way to find new clients.

Well it is if you have unlimited time or unlimited funds to pay an outside agency.

What happens when we have so many marketing pillars is that we only have time to barely scratch the surface with each one. There’s no indepth commitment to making any single marketing strategy work effectively as there isn’t the time to do it.

Over the years I’ve learned that concentrating on one strategy until it works is far more beneficial. And when that’s working, replicate it elsewhere so then you have two marketing strategies. And so on.

Flailing around attempting to manage several strategies is going to do two things. One, you’ll quickly run out of energy and interest and will do nothing. Secondly, it does not work.

You need to prove that a strategy works. If it doesn’t then tweak it until it does. Then you’re ready to go again. And again. And again.

Multi-tasking is not going to be your friend. You’ll just burn out.

Gary Keller wrote a brilliant book about this. And yes, you guessed it – it’s called The One Thing. Click here for a resume (I’m not an affiliate)

So give yourself a break and don’t try to provide content for multiple social media channels – just pick one and do it well until you get traction. Then move on to the next one and do the same again.

And don’t forget to monitor your results. Without those you won’t know if it’s working or not. Guess work and assumptions will not be your friends.
